Musnad ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA)

Hadith 26:766

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Shu'bah informed us, from al-Suddi, from Murrah, from Abdullah. My father [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] said: "Shu'bah attributed it to the Prophet (marfu'), but I do not attribute it to the Prophet for you," regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty: {And whoever intends [a deed] therein of deviation [or] wrongdoing - We will make him taste a painful punishment} [Al-Hajj: 25]. He said: "If a man were to intend therein an act of deviation while he was in Aden-Abyan, Allah would make him taste a painful punishment."
