Musnad Ahmad 26:802

Abu Sa‘id narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Zayd, from Abu Rafi‘, from Ibn Mas‘ud: That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the night of the Jinn drew a circle around him. Then one of them would come, like the blackness of a palm tree, and he said to me: "Do not leave your place." So I recited to them the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. When he saw the Zutt, he said: "They are like these." And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do you have water with you?" I said: "No." He said: "Do you have Nabidh (date-infused water) with you?" I said: "Yes." So he performed ablution with it.
