Musnad ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (RA)

Hadith 26:863

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib narrated to us, from al-Sha'bi, from Ibn Mas'ud, that the women were behind the Muslims on the day of Uhud, finishing off the wounded of the polytheists. If I had sworn on that day, I would have hoped to be truthful: that there was not one among us who desired the world, until Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, revealed: "Among you are those who desire the world, and among you are those who desire the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from them to test you" [Al 'Imran: 152]. When the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, disobeyed and went against what they were commanded to do, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was left alone with nine: seven from the Ansar and two men from Quraysh, and he was the tenth of them. When they (the polytheists) drew near to him, he said, "May Allah have mercy on a man who repels them from us." A man from the Ansar stood up and fought for a while until he was killed. When they drew near to him again, he said, "May Allah have mercy on a man who repels them from us." He kept saying that until the seven were killed. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to his two companions, "Our companions have not treated us fairly." Then Abu Sufyan came and said, "Rise, Hubal." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "Say: Allah is Higher and More Majestic." They said, "Allah is Higher and More Majestic." Abu Sufyan said, "We have al-'Uzza, and you have no 'Uzza." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "Say: Allah is our Protector, and the disbelievers have no protector." Then Abu Sufyan said, "A day for a day at Badr; a day for us and a day against us. A day of women, and a day of victory. Hanzala for Hanzala, and so-and-so for so-and-so, and so-and-so for so-and-so." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "It is not the same. As for our dead, they are alive and provided for, and as for your dead, they are in the Fire being punished." Abu Sufyan said, "There was mutilation among the people, and if it was without my consent, I neither ordered it nor forbade it, nor did I like it, nor did I dislike it, nor did it grieve me, nor did it please me." They looked and found that Hamza’s stomach had been slit open, and Hind had taken his liver and chewed it, but she could not swallow it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, "Did she eat anything of it?" They said, "No." He said, "Allah would not let anything of Hamza enter the Fire." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, placed Hamza and prayed over him. Then a man from the Ansar was brought and placed beside him, and he prayed over him. Then the Ansari was lifted, and Hamza was left. Then another was brought and placed beside Hamza, and he prayed over him, then he was lifted, and Hamza was left, until he had prayed over him seventy prayers that day.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
