Musnad Ahmad 1:1

Abu Abd al-Rahman Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: My father, Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ibn Hilal ibn Asad, narrated to me from his book, saying: Abdullah ibn Numayr narrated to us, saying: Isma'il—meaning Ibn Abi Khalid—informed us, from Qays, who said: Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up, praised Allah, and extolled Him. Then he said: O people, you recite this verse: "O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided" [Al-Ma'idah: 105]. And we heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: "Indeed, when the people see the evil and do not change it, it is imminent that Allah will encompass them with His punishment."
