Musnad Ahmad 1:15

Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, he said: Zuhayr—meaning ibn Mu'awiyah—narrated to us, he said: Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid narrated to us, he said: Qays narrated to us, he said: Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up, praised Allah the Almighty and extolled Him, then said: "O people, you recite this verse: 'O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided' [Al-Ma'idah: 105] to the end of the verse. And you are placing it in a position other than its proper one. Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'If the people see the evil and do not change it, Allah is about to encompass them with His punishment.'" He said: And I heard Abu Bakr say: "O people, beware of lying, for lying is distant from faith."
