Musnad Ahmad 1:18

'Ali ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, he said: Al-'Attaf ibn Khalid narrated to us, he said: A man from the people of Basra narrated to me, from Talha ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr al-Siddiq, he said: I heard my father mentioning that his father heard Abu Bakr, and he was saying: I said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "O Messenger of Allah, do we act upon what has already been finished, or upon a matter that is just beginning?" He said: "Rather, upon a matter that has already been finished." He said: I said: "Then why do we act, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Everyone is facilitated for that which he was created for."
