Musnad Ahmad 1:20

Yazid ibn Abd Rabbih narrated to us, he said: Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid narrated to us, he said: A sheikh from Quraysh narrated to me, from Raja’ ibn Haywah, from Junadah ibn Abi Umayyah, from Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan, who said: Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said when he sent me to the Levant: "O Yazid, you have relatives, and it is possible that you might favor them with authority, and that is the greatest thing I fear for you. For the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 'Whoever is put in charge of any of the affairs of the Muslims and appoints someone over them out of favoritism, upon him is the curse of Allah. Allah will not accept from him any obligatory or supererogatory deed until He admits him into Hell.'" "And whoever gives someone a protected area of Allah (hima), he has violated something in the protected area of Allah without right, so upon him is the curse of Allah—or he said: 'The protection of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is disavowed of him.'"
