Musnad Ahmad 1:24

Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Salih, Ibn Shihab said: 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, informed him: That Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked Abu Bakr after the death of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to distribute to her her inheritance from what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had left behind from what Allah had bestowed upon him. Abu Bakr said to her: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'We are not inherited from; what we leave behind is charity.'" Fatimah, peace be upon her, became angry and shunned Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and she did not cease shunning him until she passed away. He said: And she lived for six months after the death of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, used to ask Abu Bakr for her share of what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had left behind from Khaybar, Fadak, and his charity in Medina. Abu Bakr refused that to her and said: "I will not leave anything that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to do except that I will do it. I fear that if I leave anything of his command, I will deviate." As for his charity in Medina, 'Umar handed it over to 'Ali and al-'Abbas, and 'Ali prevailed over it. As for Khaybar and Fadak, 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, withheld them and said: "They are the charity of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They were for his needs that would befall him and his exigencies, and their affair is with whoever is in charge of the matter." He said: And they remain as such today.
