Musnad Ahmad 1:40

Aswad ibn Amir narrated to us, Isra’il narrated to us, from Jabir, from Amir, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abza, from Abu Bakr, who said: I was sitting with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, when Ma’iz ibn Malik came and confessed to him once, so he turned him away. Then he came to him and confessed to him a second time, so he turned him away. Then he came and confessed a third time, so he turned him away. I said to him, "If you confess a fourth time, he will stone you." He said: So he confessed a fourth time. He then detained him, and asked about him. They said, "We know nothing of him but good." He said: So he ordered his stoning.
