Musnad Ahmad 1:54

Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Layth narrated to us, ‘Aqil narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, from ‘Aishah, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that she informed him: That Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sent to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, asking him for her inheritance from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, from what Allah had bestowed upon him in Medina and Fadak, and what remained of the fifth of Khaybar. Abu Bakr said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'We are not inherited from; what we leave is charity. The family of Muhammad only eats from this wealth.' And by Allah, I will not change anything of the charity of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, from the state it was in during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I will surely act regarding it as the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, acted." So Abu Bakr refused to give Fatimah anything from it. Fatimah felt aggrieved toward Abu Bakr regarding that. Abu Bakr said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the kinship of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is dearer to me to maintain than my own kinship. As for what occurred between me and you regarding these properties, I have not fallen short regarding the truth in them, and I have not left any matter that I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, doing regarding them except that I have done it."
