Musnad Ahmad 30:1068

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The needy person is not the one who goes around among the people, whom a morsel or two, or a date or two, turns away. Rather, the needy person is the one who does not find enough wealth to suffice him, and he is too shy to ask the people, and he is not noticed so that charity might be given to him."
