Musnad Abu Hurairah (RA)

Hadith 30:1140

'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Ikrimah ibn 'Ammar narrated to us, Abu Kathir narrated to me, Abu Hurayrah narrated to me, and he said to us: "By Allah, Allah has not created a believer who hears of me and sees me except that he loves me." I said: "And what makes you know that, O Abu Hurayrah?" He said: "My mother was a polytheist woman, and I used to invite her to Islam, but she would refuse me. One day I invited her, and she said things about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that I disliked. So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while I was weeping, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I used to invite my mother to Islam, and she would refuse me. Today I invited her, and she said things about you that I disliked. So supplicate to Allah to guide the mother of Abu Hurayrah.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'O Allah, guide the mother of Abu Hurayrah.' So I went out running to give her the good news of the supplication of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When I reached the door, it was closed, and I heard the splashing of water, and I heard the sound of her feet—meaning their footsteps. She said: 'O Abu Hurayrah, stay where you are.' Then she opened the door, having put on her chemise and having hurried without her head covering, and she said: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).' So I returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) weeping with joy just as I had wept with sadness, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, rejoice, for Allah has answered your supplication and has guided the mother of Abu Hurayrah.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah to make me and my mother beloved to His believing servants, and to make them beloved to us.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'O Allah, make this servant of Yours and his mother beloved to Your believing servants, and make them beloved to them.' So Allah has not created a believer who hears of me and sees me, or sees my mother, except that he loves me."
