Musnad Ahmad 30:1163

Ali ibn Hafs narrated to us, Warqa’ informed us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A’raj, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A man said: 'I will surely give charity tonight.' So he took out his charity and placed it in the hand of an adulteress. In the morning, they were talking: 'Charity was given to an adulteress last night.' Then he said: 'I will surely give charity tonight.' So he took out his charity and placed it in the hand of a thief. In the morning, they were talking: 'Charity was given to a thief last night.' Then he said: 'I will surely give charity tonight.' So he took out the charity and placed it in the hand of a rich man. In the morning, they were talking: 'Charity was given to a rich man last night.'" He said: "He said: 'Praise be to Allah, for the thief, and for the adulteress, and for the rich man.'" He said: "Then he was approached and it was said to him: 'As for your charity, it has been accepted. As for the adulteress, perhaps she will refrain [from adultery] because of it. As for the thief, perhaps he will refrain [from stealing] because of it. And as for the rich man, perhaps he will take heed and spend from what Allah has given him.'"
