Musnad Ahmad 30:1224

Hashim narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Talhah narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Shubrumah, from Abu Zur'ah ibn 'Amr ibn Jarir, from Abu Hurairah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Nothing transmits [disease] to anything, nothing transmits [disease] to anything," [repeating it] three times. He said: A Bedouin stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the mange occurs on the lip of a camel, or on its rump, and then the [rest of the] camels become covered in mange." He said: He remained silent for a moment, then said: "What transmitted [the disease] to the first one? There is no contagion, no *safar* (superstition regarding the month of Safar), and no *hamah* (superstition regarding the owl). Allah created every soul, and He wrote its life, its death, its calamities, and its provision."
