'Affan narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Mutarrif, from 'Amir, who said: Shurayh ibn Hani' said: While I was in the mosque of Medina, Abu Hurayrah said: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "No man loves to meet Allah except that Allah loves to meet him, and no man hates to meet Allah except that Allah hates to meet him." So I came to 'Aishah and said: If what Abu Hurayrah mentioned from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is true, then we are ruined. She said: The only one who is ruined is the one who is ruined regarding what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said. And what is that? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "No man loves to meet Allah except that Allah loves to meet him, and no man hates to meet Allah except that Allah hates to meet him." She said: And I bear witness that I heard him say that. And do you know why that is? When the chest rattles, the eyes stare fixedly, the skin shivers, and the fingers cramp—at that moment, whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.
