Musnad Abu Hurairah (RA)

Hadith 30:1535

Hassan narrated to us, Sakeen narrated to us, he said: Hafs ibn Khalid narrated to us, Shahr ibn Hawshab narrated to me, from Abu Hurairah, who said: I was a witness to the delegation of Abdul Qays when they came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: He forbade them from drinking from these vessels: the *hantam* (green glazed jars), the *duba* (gourds), the *muzaffat* (pitch-coated vessels), and the *naqir* (hollowed-out logs). He said: A man from the people stood up to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the people have no other vessels." He said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, as if he felt pity for the people. He said: "Drink it when it is wholesome, and when it becomes foul, then leave it."
