Musnad Ahmad 30:1592

Abu Ja'far al-Mada'ini narrated to us, 'Abd al-Samad ibn Habib al-Azdi informed us, from his father Habib ibn 'Abd Allah, from Shubayl ibn 'Awf, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say to Thawban: "How will you be, O Thawban, when the nations call upon one another against you, just as you call one another to a bowl of food, from which you partake?" Thawban said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah, will it be because of our small number? He said: "No, rather you will be many on that day, but weakness will be cast into your hearts." They said: And what is the weakness, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Your love for the world and your hatred of fighting."
