Musnad Ahmad 30:1648

Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Ibn Abi Dhi’b narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ‘Amr ibn ‘Ata’, from Sa’id ibn Yasar, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he said: "Indeed, the angels attend the deceased. If he is a righteous man, they say: 'Come out, O good soul, that was in a good body. Come out praiseworthy, and receive glad tidings of mercy and fragrance, and a Lord who is not angry.' It is said that it continues to be said to it until it comes out. Then it is ascended with to the heaven, and it is requested to be opened for it. It is said: 'Who is this?' It is said: 'So-and-so.' They say: 'Welcome to the good soul that was in a good body. Enter praiseworthy, and receive glad tidings of mercy and fragrance, and a Lord who is not angry.' It is said that it continues to be said to it until it is brought to the heaven in which Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, is." "And if he is an evil man, they say: 'Come out, O wicked soul, that was in a wicked body. Come out blameworthy, and receive glad tidings of boiling water and pus, and other things of its kind, in pairs.' It continues to come out, then it is ascended with to the heaven, and it is requested to be opened for it. It is said: 'Who is this?' It is said: 'So-and-so.' It is said: 'No welcome to the wicked soul that was in a wicked body. Return blameworthy, for the gates of heaven will not be opened for you.' So it is sent down from the heaven, then it goes to the grave. The righteous man is made to sit, and it is said to him the like of what was said to him in the first hadith. And the evil man is made to sit, and it is said to him the like of what was said to him in the first hadith."
