Musnad Ahmad 30:1672

Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Ibn Abi Dhi’b informed us, from al-Qasim ibn ‘Abbas, from Bukayr ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Ashajj, from Yazid ibn Mukriz, from Abu Hurayrah, that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, a man wants to strive (Jihad) in the way of Allah, while he seeks some of the goods of this world." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "He has no reward." The people considered that a grave matter, and they said to the man: "Return to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, perhaps he did not understand you." So he repeated that to him three times, and each time he said: "He has no reward."
