Musnad Ahmad 30:1715

Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Isma'il ibn Zakariyya narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam al-Nakha'i, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever dwells in the desert becomes harsh, and whoever follows the hunt becomes heedless, and whoever comes to the doors of the ruler is tempted. And no servant increases in closeness to the ruler, except that he increases in distance from Allah."
