Hadith 30:172

Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayrah, that a man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "I am ruined." He said: "And what has ruined you?" He said: "I had intercourse with my wife during Ramadan." He said: "Can you find a slave to free?" He said: "No." He said: "Are you able to fast two consecutive months?" He said: "No." He said: "Are you able to feed sixty poor people?" He said: "No." He said: "Sit." Then a large basket (*'araq*) of dates was brought to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—and the *'araq* is a large container—and he said: "Give this in charity." The man said: "To someone poorer than us? There is no one between the two lava fields of Medina poorer than us." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, laughed until his canine teeth appeared, and he said: "Feed it to your family." In another narration, he said: "He smiled until his canine teeth appeared, and said: 'Feed it to your dependents.'"

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
