Musnad Ahmad 30:1797

Qutaybah narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz narrated to us, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you travel during a time of plenty (lush vegetation), give the camels their share of the land (let them graze). When you travel during a time of drought, hasten with them to reach their destination (or: hasten to reach the marrow/fattening). And when you camp for the night, avoid the roads, for they are the paths of the beasts and the shelters of the vermin at night."
