Musnad Ahmad 30:1936

'Affan narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, 'Abdullah ibn Tawus narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "The likeness of the miser and the almsgiver is the likeness of two men wearing two coats of mail made of iron, with their hands pressed against their collarbones. Whenever the almsgiver intends to give charity, it expands for him until it covers his tracks. And whenever the miser intends to give charity, every ring of it constricts upon its neighbor, and it shrinks upon him." He said: So I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "He struggles to widen it, but it does not widen."
