'Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammam narrated to us, Ishaq ibn 'Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah narrated to us, he said: There was a storyteller in Medina called 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi 'Amrah. He said: I heard him saying: I heard Abu Hurayrah saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying: "A servant committed a sin, so he said: 'O my Lord, I have committed a sin, so forgive me.' His Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, said: 'My servant knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them,' so He forgave him. Then he remained for as long as Allah willed, then he committed another sin, and he said: 'O my Lord, I have committed a sin, so forgive it.' His Lord said: 'My servant knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them,' so He forgave him. Then he remained for as long as Allah willed, then he committed another sin, and he said: 'O my Lord, I have committed a sin, so forgive it.' His Lord said: 'My servant knew that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them; I have forgiven My servant.'"
