Musnad Abu Hurairah (RA)
Hadith 30:2474
Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, he said: Humayd ibn Hilal narrated to us, from Abu Rafi', from Abu Hurayrah, who said: "Jurayj used to worship in his hermitage. He said: His mother came to him and said: 'O Jurayj, I am your mother, so speak to me.'" He said: Abu Hurayrah used to describe it as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) described it, placing his hand over his right eyebrow. He said: "She found him praying, so he said: 'O Lord, my mother or my prayer?' So he chose his prayer. She returned, then came to him and found him praying, and she said: 'O Jurayj, I am your mother, so speak to me.' He said: 'O Lord, my mother or my prayer?' So he chose his prayer. Then she came to him and found him praying, and she said: 'O Jurayj, I am your mother, so speak to me.' He said: 'O Lord, my mother or my prayer?' So he chose his prayer. She said: 'O Allah, this is Jurayj, and he is my son, and I spoke to him but he refused to speak to me. O Allah, do not let him die until You show him the harlots.' And had she prayed against him that he be tempted, he would have been tempted." He said: "There was a shepherd who used to take shelter near his hermitage. He said: A woman went out and the shepherd had intercourse with her, and she gave birth to a boy. It was said: 'Who is this from?' She said: 'It is from the owner of the hermitage.' They came with their axes and shovels and approached the hermitage, and they called out to him, but he did not speak to them. They began to demolish his hermitage, so he came down to them. They said: 'Ask this woman.' He said—and he smiled—then he wiped the head of the boy and said: 'Who is your father?' He said: 'The sheep shepherd.' They said: 'O Jurayj, we will rebuild what we demolished of your hermitage with gold and silver.' He said: 'No, but restore it as dirt as it was,' and they did so."
