Musnad Ahmad 30:2555

Ya'la and Muhammad, the two sons of 'Ubayd, said: Al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam narrated to us, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from a sheikh of the Ansar, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever dwells in the desert becomes harsh, and whoever follows the hunt becomes heedless, and whoever approaches the doors of the ruler is tempted. And no servant increases in closeness to the ruler, except that he increases in distance from Allah, the Almighty and Majestic."
