Musnad Ahmad 30:2717

Hajjaj narrated to us, he said: Layth narrated to us, he said: Uqayl narrated to me, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman and Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah, that he said: A man from the Muslims came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while he was in the mosque, and he called out to him, saying: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." He turned away from him, so he moved to the direction he was facing and said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." He turned away from him, until he repeated that to him four times. When he had testified against himself four times, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, called him and said: "Is there madness in you?" He said: "No." He said: "Have you been married (in a state of ihsan)?" He said: "Yes." Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Take him and stone him." Ibn Shihab said: And someone who heard Jabir ibn Abdullah informed me, saying: "I was among those who stoned him, so we stoned him in the prayer ground (musalla). When the stones hurt him, he fled, so we caught up with him at the Harrah and stoned him."
