Musnad Ahmad 30:2785

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, he said: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from al-Jallas, he said: I heard ‘Uthman ibn Shammas, he said: Marwan used to pass by Medina, he said: He would pass by Abu Hurayrah while he was narrating. He said: "Some of your hadith, O Abu Hurayrah." He said: Then he went on. He said: Then he returned and said: "O Abu Hurayrah, how did you hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, pray over the funeral?" He said: He said: "You created it—or did You create it? (Shu‘bah is the one who doubted)—and You guided it to Islam, and You took its soul. You know its secret and its public. We have come as intercessors, so forgive it."
