'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from 'Ubayd—meaning the freed slave of Abu Ruhm—who said: I went out with Abu Hurayrah from the mosque, and he saw a woman whose scent was wafting, and her garment had a trail of dust. He said: "O handmaid of the Compeller, did you come from the mosque?" She said: "Yes." He said: "And for it did you apply perfume?" She said: "Yes." He said: "Then return, for I heard Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has applied perfume for the mosque—or for this mosque—until she performs a bath like her bath for major ritual impurity (janabah).'"
