Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, and ‘Abd al-Rahman, who said: Sufyan narrated to us—the meaning—and Abu Nu’aym, who said: Sufyan narrated to us, from Sa’d ibn Ibrahim, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Hurmuz al-A’raj, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Quraysh, the Ansar, Ashja’, Ghifar, Aslam, Muzaynah, and Juhaynah are the mawali (allies/clients) of Allah and His Messenger; they have no mawla (ally/patron) other than Him." Abu Nu’aym said: "Mawali, they have no mawla besides Allah and His Messenger."
