Musnad Ahmad 30:3154

Narrated to us Abd al-Rahman, from Zuhayr, from al-Ala’, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives whom I maintain ties with, but they sever ties with me; I treat them with kindness, but they treat me with evil; and they act ignorantly toward me, but I show forbearance toward them." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If it is as you say, then it is as if you are feeding them hot ashes, and you will continue to have a supporter against them from Allah as long as you remain in that state."
