Musnad Ahmad 30:3363

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A’raj, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who said: "Let not one of you say: 'O Allah, forgive me if You will; O Allah, have mercy on me if You will.' Let him be firm in his request, for there is no one to compel Him." Abdullah said: Thus it was in the book of my father, written by Mubayyad: "And let him not withhold the surplus of water, so that the surplus of herbage may be withheld by it."
