Musnad Ahmad 30:3380

Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad informed us, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurairah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Charity is only [given] from what is surplus to one's needs, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin with those whom you support."
