Musnad Abu Hurairah (RA)

Hadith 30:3635

'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Hassan—meaning al-'Anbari—narrated to me, from al-Qalush, that Shihab ibn Mudlij settled in the desert. His son insulted a man and said, "O son of the one who became a Bedouin after the Hijrah." Shihab came to Medina and met Abu Hurayrah, and he heard him say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best of people are two men: a man who fights in the way of Allah until he descends upon a place that distresses the enemy, and a man in a corner of the desert who establishes the five prayers, pays the due of his wealth, and worships his Lord until certainty (death) comes to him." He knelt on his knees and said, "Did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying it, O Abu Hurayrah?" He said, "Yes." So he returned to his desert and stayed there.
