'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Amr narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Zayd, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who said: "The best charity is that which is given from surplus wealth, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin with those whom you support." He said: Abu Hurayrah was asked, "Who are those whom you support?" He said: "Your wife, who says: 'Feed me'—or 'spend on me' (Abu 'Amir was in doubt)—'or divorce me'; and your servant, who says: 'Feed me and employ me'; and your daughter, who says: 'To whom are you leaving me?'"
