'Abdullah ibn Yazid narrated to us, al-Mas'udi narrated to us, from 'Alqamah ibn Marthad, from Abu al-Rabi', from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Four things from the affair of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance) that the people will not abandon: wailing over the dead, slandering lineages, and the *Anwa'* (attributing rain to the stars): a man saying, 'We were given rain by the star of such-and-such,' and *al-I'da'* (contagion): a camel has mange and it infects a hundred. So who infected the first one?"
