Abdullah ibn Yazid narrated to us, Sa’id narrated to us, Ibn ‘Ajlan narrated to me, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that he said: "The best of charity is that which is given from surplus wealth, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin with those whom you support." It was said: "Whom do I support, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Your wife, whom you support, she says: 'Feed me, or else divorce me.' And your slave girl, she says: 'Feed me and employ me.' And your child, he says: 'To whom are you leaving me?'"
