Musnad Ahmad 30:3775

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, regarding the saying of the Almighty, "Every nation will be called to its record" [al-Jathiyah: 28], from 'Ata' ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The people said, "O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Are you harmed by the sun when there is no cloud beneath it?" They said, "No, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Are you harmed by the moon on the night of the full moon when there is no cloud beneath it?" ('Abd al-Razzaq said once: "The moon on the night of the full moon when there is no cloud beneath it?") They said, "No, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Then you will see your Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, on the Day of Resurrection just like that. Allah will gather the people and say: 'Whoever was worshipping something, let him follow it.' So, whoever was worshipping the moon will follow the moon, and whoever was worshipping the sun will follow the sun, and whoever was worshipping the false deities (tawaghit) will follow the false deities. This nation will remain, and among them will be their hypocrites. Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, will come to them in a form other than the one they know and say: 'I am your Lord.' They will say: 'We seek refuge in Allah from you. This is our place until our Lord comes to us; when our Lord comes to us, we will recognize Him.' He said: Then Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, will come to them in the form they know and say: 'I am your Lord.' They will say: 'You are our Lord,' and they will follow Him." He said: "A bridge will be set up over Hell." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "I will be the first to cross. The plea of the Messengers on that day will be: 'O Allah, grant safety, grant safety.' Upon it will be hooks like the thorns of the Sa'dan. Have you seen the thorns of the Sa'dan?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "It is like the thorns of the Sa'dan, except that no one knows the extent of their size except Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. They will snatch the people according to their deeds. Among them will be the one ruined by his deeds, and among them will be the one shredded, then he will be saved. Until, when Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, finishes judging between the servants and intends to bring out of the Fire whom He intends to show mercy to, from those who used to testify that there is no god but Allah, He will command the angels to bring them out. They will recognize them by the mark of the traces of prostration, and Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has forbidden the Fire to consume the trace of prostration from the son of Adam. They will bring them out of the Fire, having been scorched, and water will be poured upon them called the 'Water of Life,' and they will grow like the growing of a seed in the silt of a flood." "A man will remain, turning his face toward the Fire, and he will say: 'O my Lord, its wind has poisoned me and its heat has burned me, so turn my face away from the Fire.' He said: He will continue to call upon Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, until He says: 'Perhaps if I grant you that, you will ask Me for something else?' He will say: 'No, by Your Might, I will not ask You for anything else.' So He will turn his face away from the Fire. Then, after that, he will say: 'O Lord, bring me near to the gate of Paradise.' He will say: 'Did you not claim that you would not ask Me for anything else? Woe to you, O son of Adam, how treacherous you are!' He will continue to call upon Him until He says: 'Perhaps if I grant you that, you will ask Me for something else?' He will say: 'No, by Your Might, I will not ask You for anything else.' And he will give Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, his covenants and oaths that he will not ask Him for anything else. So He will bring him near to the gate of Paradise, and when he draws near to it, Paradise will open up for him. When he sees what is in it of splendor and joy, he will remain silent for as long as Allah wills him to remain silent, then he will say: 'O Lord, admit me into Paradise.' He will say: 'Did you not claim that you would not ask Me for anything else?'—or he said: 'Did you not give your covenant and your oaths that you would not ask Me for anything else?'—he will say: 'O Lord, do not make me the most miserable of Your creation.' He will continue to call upon Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, until He laughs. When He laughs at him, He will permit him to enter it." "When he enters, it will be said to him: 'Wish for such and such,' and he will wish. Then it will be said: 'Wish for such and such,' and he will wish, until his wishes are exhausted. Then it will be said: 'This is for you, and the like of it with it.'" He said: Abu Sa'id was sitting with Abu Hurayrah, not changing anything of his statement, until he reached his saying: "This is for you, and the like of it with it." Abu Sa'id said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'This is for you, and ten times the like of it with it.'" Abu Hurayrah said: "I memorized 'and the like of it with it.'" Abu Hurayrah said: "And that man is the last of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise."
