Musnad Ahmad 30:782

Yazid narrated to us, Ibn Abi Dhi'b informed us, from al-Qasim ibn 'Abbas, from Bukayr ibn 'Abdullah ibn al-Ashajj, from Ibn Mukraz, from Abu Hurayrah: That a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, a man desires Jihad in the way of Allah, while he seeks the goods of this world?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He has no reward." The people considered that a grave matter, and they said to the man: "Return to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), perhaps he did not understand you." So he returned and said: "O Messenger of Allah, a man desires Jihad in the way of Allah, while he seeks the goods of this world?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He has no reward." Then he returned a third time, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "He has no reward."
