Musnad Ahmad 30:799

Yazid narrated to us, Hisham ibn Abi Hisham informed us, from Muhammad ibn al-Aswad, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "My nation has been given five characteristics in Ramadan that no nation before them was given: The change in the breath of the fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk. The angels seek forgiveness for them until they break their fast. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, beautifies His Paradise every day, then says: 'It is near that My righteous servants will cast off the burden and the harm and come to you.' In it, the rebellious devils are chained, so they cannot reach what they used to reach in other than it. And they are forgiven on the last night." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr)?" He said: "No, but the worker is only paid his wage when he finishes his work."
