Hadith 30:83
Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Ibn ‘Awn, from Muhammad, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed one of the two afternoon prayers—Muhammad said: Abu Hurayrah mentioned it, but Muhammad forgot it—so he prayed two rak‘ahs, then he performed the taslim. He went to a piece of wood placed in the mosque and placed his hand upon it, as if he were angry. The hasty ones exited through the doors of the mosque, saying: "The prayer has been shortened." He said: Among the people were Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, and they were too awestruck to speak to him. Among the people was a man who had long hands, called Dhu al-Yadayn. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, have you forgotten, or has the prayer been shortened?" He said: "I have not forgotten, nor has the prayer been shortened." He said: "Is it as Dhu al-Yadayn says?" They said: "Yes." He said: So he came and prayed what he had left out, then he performed the taslim. Then he said "Allahu Akbar" and prostrated like his prostration or longer, then he raised his head and said "Allahu Akbar," then he said "Allahu Akbar" and prostrated like his prostration or longer, then he raised his head and said "Allahu Akbar." He said: Muhammad used to ask: "Then did he perform the taslim?" He would say: "I have been informed that ‘Imran ibn Husayn said: Then he performed the taslim."
حدثنا محمد بن أبي عدي، عن ابن عون، عن محمد، عن أبي هريرة، قال: صلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إحدى صلاتي العشي - قال: ذكرها أبو هريرة ونسيها محمد -، فصلى ركعتين ثم سلم، وأتى خشبة معروضة في المسجد، فقال بيده عليها، كأنه غضبان، وخرجت السرعان من أبواب المسجد، قالوا: قصرت الصلاة. قال: وفي القوم أبو بكر وعمر، فهاباه أن يكلماه، وفي القوم رجل في يديه طول، يسمى: ذا اليدين ، فقال: يا رسول الله، أنسيت أم قصرت الصلاة؟ فقال: " لم أنس، ولم تقصر الصلاة "، قال: " كما يقول ذو اليدين؟ "، قالوا: نعم، قال: فجاء فصلى الذي كان ترك ، ثم سلم، ثم كبر فسجد مثل سجوده أو أطول، ثم رفع رأسه وكبر، ثم كبر فسجد مثل سجوده أو أطول، ثم رفع رأسه وكبر . قال: فكان محمد، يسأل: ثم سلم؟ فيقول: نبئت أن عمران بن حصين، قال: ثم سلم . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
