Musnad Ahmad 31:139

Rab'i ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Zayd ibn Aslam narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He said: "Are you harmed by seeing the sun when there is no cloud beneath it?" We said: "No." He said: "Are you harmed by seeing the moon on the night of the full moon when there is no cloud beneath it?" We said: "No." He said: "Then you will see your Lord on the Day of Resurrection just like that. Allah will gather the people on the Day of Resurrection on a single level plain." He said: "It will be said: 'Whoever used to worship something, let him follow it.' So those who used to worship the sun will follow the sun, and they will fall into the Fire. Those who used to worship the moon will follow the moon, and they will fall into the Fire. Those who used to worship idols and statues will follow them, and they will fall into the Fire." He said: "And everyone who used to worship other than Allah will fall into the Fire." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Then the believers will remain, and their hypocrites among them, and the remnants of the People of the Scripture." And he gestured with his hand to indicate their small number. He said: "Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will come to them and say: 'Will you not follow what you used to worship?' They will say: 'We used to worship Allah, but we did not see Allah.' Then He will uncover His Shin, and no one who used to prostrate to Allah will remain except that he will fall prostrate, and no one who used to prostrate out of showing off and seeking reputation will remain except that he will fall upon his back." He said: "Then the Bridge (Sirat) will be placed across the back of Hell, and the Prophets will be on its sides, saying: 'O Allah, grant safety, grant safety; O Allah, grant safety, grant safety.' It is slippery and treacherous, and it has hooks and barbs." Abd al-Rahman said: I do not know, perhaps he said: "Snatching people, and like the thorny plant that grows in Najd called al-Sa'dan." He said: And he described it to them. He said: "I and my nation will be the first to pass—or the first to cross." He said: "They will pass over it like lightning, like the wind, like the best of horses and camels. Some will be saved and safe, some will be scratched and wounded, and some will be piled into the Fire. When they cross it—or when they pass it—none of you is more persistent in pleading for his right that he knows is his than they will be in pleading for their brothers who fell into the Fire. They will say: 'O Lord, we used to fight together, perform Hajj together, and perform Umrah together; why have we been saved today while they have perished?'" He said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: 'Look for anyone who had the weight of a dinar of faith in his heart, and bring him out.' They will bring them out. Then He will say: 'Whoever had the weight of a qirat of faith in his heart, bring him out.' They will bring them out. Then He will say: 'Whoever had the weight of a mustard seed of faith in his heart, bring him out.' They will bring them out." Abu Sa'id then said: "Between me and you is the Book of Allah." Abd al-Rahman said: I think he meant His saying: {And if there is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth, and sufficient are We as reckoners} [Al-Anbiya: 47]. He said: "Then they will be brought out of the Fire and cast into a river called the River of Life. They will sprout as a seed sprouts in the silt of a flood. Do you not see what is of the vegetation that is towards the sun? It is green, and what is towards the shade is yellow." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is as if you used to tend sheep?" He said: "Yes, I have tended sheep."
