Musnad Ahmad 31:163

Yazid narrated to us, [he said] al-Jariri informed us, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Sa’id al-Khudri, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Indeed, the people of the Fire whom Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, does not intend to bring out, they will neither die therein nor live. And indeed, the people of the Fire whom Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, intends to bring out, He will cause them to die a death therein until they become charcoal. Then they will be brought out in groups and cast upon the rivers of Paradise—or it is said: water will be sprinkled upon them from the rivers of Paradise—so they will sprout as a seed sprouts in the silt of a flood."
