Musnad Ahmad 31:209

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Ibn 'Ajlan, 'Iyad narrated to us, from Abu Sa'id, who said: A man entered the mosque on a Friday while the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was on the pulpit. He called him and ordered him to pray two rak'ahs. Then he entered on the second Friday while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was on the pulpit. He called him and ordered him. Then he entered on the third Friday, and he ordered him to pray two rak'ahs. Then he said: "Give charity," and they did so. He gave him two garments from what they had given in charity. Then he said: "Give charity," and he threw one of his two garments. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, rebuked him and disliked what he had done. Then he said: "Look at this man; he entered the mosque in a shabby state. I called him, hoping that you would notice him, give charity to him, and clothe him, but you did not do so. So I said: 'Give charity,' and you gave charity. I gave him two garments from what you gave in charity. Then I said: 'Give charity,' and he threw one of his two garments. Take your garment," and he rebuked him.
