Musnad Ahmad 31:212

Yahya ibn Sa’id narrated to us, ‘Uthman ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, he said: Abu Nadra narrated to me, from Abu Sa’id al-Khudri, he said: People will be presented at the bridge of Hell; upon it are thorns, hooks, and grapples that snatch people. He said: So people will pass like lightning, and others like the wind, and others like a racing horse, and others will run with effort, and others will walk, and others will crawl, and others will drag themselves. As for the people of the Fire, they will neither die nor live. As for some people, they will be taken for their sins and burned until they become charcoal. Then Allah will grant permission for intercession, so they will be taken in groups and cast upon a river, and they will sprout as a seed sprouts in the silt of a flood. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Have you seen the *sabgha* (the green vegetation)?" He said: "And upon the Fire are three trees. A man will emerge—or be brought out—from the Fire, and he will be at its edge. He will say: 'O Lord, turn my face away from it.' He will say: 'And your covenant and your pledge that you will not ask Me for anything else?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then he will see a tree and say: 'O Lord, bring me near to this tree so I may seek shade in its shadow and eat of its fruit.' He will say: 'And your covenant and your pledge that you will not ask Me for anything else?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then he will see another tree better than it, and he will say: 'O Lord, move me to this tree so I may seek shade in its shadow and eat of its fruit.' He will say: 'And your covenant and your pledge that you will not ask Me for anything else?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then he will see a third, and he will say: 'O Lord, move me to this tree so I may seek shade in its shadow and eat of its fruit.' He will say: 'And your covenant and your pledge that you will not ask Me for anything else?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then he will see the darkness of the people and hear their voices, and he will say: 'Lord, admit me into Paradise.'" He said: Abu Sa’id said: And another man from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)—they differed. One of them said: "He will enter Paradise and be given the world and the like of it with it." And the other said: "He will enter Paradise and be given the world and ten times the like of it."
