Musnad Ahmad 31:317

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, he said: Mu'awiyah—meaning Ibn Salih—narrated to me, from Rabi'ah ibn Yazid, he said: Quza'ah narrated to me, he said: I came to Abu Sa'id while he was being crowded. When the people dispersed from him, I said: "I am not asking you about what these people asked you about. I said: I ask you about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." He said: "There is no good for you in that." Then he repeated it to him, so he said: "The Dhuhr prayer would be established, and one of us would depart to al-Baqi', relieve himself, then come to his family and perform ablution, then return to the mosque while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was in the first rak'ah." He said: And I asked him about Zakat? He said—and I do not know if he attributed it to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, or not—: "In two hundred dirhams, five dirhams. And in forty sheep, one sheep, up to one hundred and twenty. If it increases by one, then in it are two sheep, up to two hundred. If it increases, then in it are three sheep, up to three hundred. If it increases, then in every hundred, one sheep. And in camels, in five, one sheep; in ten, two sheep; in fifteen, three sheep; in twenty, four sheep; in twenty-five, a bint makhad (a one-year-old female camel), up to thirty-five. If it increases by one, then in it is a bint labun (a two-year-old female camel), up to forty-five. If it increases by one, then in it is a hiqqah (a three-year-old female camel), up to sixty. If it increases by one, then in it is a jadha'ah (a four-year-old female camel), up to seventy-five. If it increases by one, then in it are two bint labun, up to ninety. If it increases by one, then in it are two hiqqahs, up to one hundred and twenty. If it increases, then in every fifty is a hiqqah, and in every forty is a bint labun." And I asked him about fasting while traveling? He said: We traveled with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to Makkah while we were fasting. He said: We descended at a place, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "You have drawn near to your enemy, and breaking the fast is stronger for you." So it was a concession; some of us fasted and some of us broke the fast. Then we descended at another place, and he said: "You will be meeting your enemy in the morning, and breaking the fast is stronger for you, so break the fast." So it was a firm command, and we broke the fast. Then he said: I have seen us fasting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, after that while traveling.
