Yunus narrated to us, Laith narrated to us, from Yazid—meaning Ibn al-Had—from Yuhannis, the freed slave of Mus'ab ibn al-Zubayr, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: While we were traveling with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at al-'Arj, a poet appeared reciting poetry. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Seize the devil—or hold the devil—for a man’s belly to be filled with pus is better for him than for it to be filled with poetry."
