Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Nu'man Abu al-Nu'man al-Ansari narrated to us, in Kufa, from Sulayman ibn Qattah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent an expedition, and I was among them. We came to a village and asked its people for food, but they refused to feed us anything. Then a man from the people of the village came to us and said: "O company of Arabs, is there a man among you who performs *ruqyah* (healing incantation)?" Abu Sa'id said: I said: "What is that?" He said: "The king of the village is dying." He said: So we went with him, and I performed *ruqyah* over him with the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah), repeating it over him several times. He was cured, so he sent us food and sheep to be driven. My companions said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not give us any instruction regarding this; let us not take anything from it until we come to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." So we drove the sheep until we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and told him. He said: "Eat, and feed us with you, and what made you know that it is a *ruqyah*?" He said: I said: "It was cast into my heart."
