Musnad Ahmad 31:557

Ibrahim ibn Khalid narrated to us, Rabah narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: A group of the Ansar gathered and said: "Others have been preferred over us." This reached the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, so he gathered them and addressed them, saying: "O assembly of the Ansar, were you not lowly, and Allah honored you?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth." He said: "Were you not astray, and Allah guided you?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth." He said: "Were you not poor, and Allah enriched you?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth." Then he said: "Will you not answer me? Will you not say: 'You came to us driven out, and we gave you shelter; you came to us afraid, and we gave you security'? Are you not pleased that the people go away with sheep and cattle—meaning cows—while you go away with the Messenger of Allah, taking him to your homes? If the people traveled through a valley or a mountain pass, and you traveled through a valley or a mountain pass, I would travel through your valley or your mountain pass. Were it not for the Hijrah, I would have been a man from the Ansar. And you will surely encounter selfishness after me, so be patient until you meet me at the Basin."
