Musnad Ahmad 31:589

I read to Abd al-Rahman: Malik, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taymi, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "There will emerge among you a people; you will deem your prayer insignificant compared to their prayer, your fasting compared to their fasting, and your deeds compared to their deeds. They will recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through the game animal. One looks at the arrowhead and sees nothing, then looks at the shaft and sees nothing, then looks at the feathers and sees nothing, and he doubts the notch." Abd al-Rahman said: Malik narrated this to us, meaning this hadith.
